The 2011 Lake Mirror Classic Auto Festival is now history.   We enjoyed a wonderful weekend with over 600 show vehicles and 35,000 spectators.   We hope to be posting images soon.  Click Here for a listing of the awards from the Concours d’Elegance.

Hundreds of classic and collectible vehicles including Street Rods & Custom cars will be displayed on the streets of downtown Lakeland on Saturday. The cars are assembled in groups of similar makes and models in a 14-block area of downtown. Although the event is not judged, ribbons and prizes are presented to vehicles selected as sponsor favorites.  Participants receive a Goody Bag from area merchants and event sponsors, a custom display sign for the vehicle and lunch for two.

The new 2011 Poster features the 1987 Jaguar XRJ-7 which will be displayed by Honorary Chairman Bob Tullius.

The featured event of the Lake Mirror Classic is Saturday’s Concours d’Elegance, the judged portion of the show, presented along the Lake Mirror Park Promenade.  Categories for the Concours focus on original condition vehicles contructed prior to 1973.   The Concours is limited by space to 120 vehicles which must be pre-approved and invited by our selection committee.   Registration for the 2011 Lake Mirror Classic is now closed.

Looking for that special collector car you’ve been dreaming about for years?   You’ll have a chance to find it at the  The Lake Mirror Classic Auto Festival & Auction for 2011.  Approximately 100 collector cars are planned to be auctioned during the inaugural Lake Mirror Classic Car Auction.  Higgenbotham Auctioneers International will conduct the auction on behalf of Lake Mirror Classic. Vehicles will be displayed for public review on Saturday, Oct. 15^th at the Lake Mirror Classic Auto Festival in downtown Lakeland, FL.   With over 35,000 people in attendance downtown Lakeland, FL will be the place to be if you’re interested in buying or selling a collector car.   To consign a vehicle now or to receive more information email:  autoauction@Higgenbotham.com.

Bob Tullius served as Honorary Chairman for the 2011 Lake Mirror Classic Auto Festival.  Mr. Tullius is best known for his highly successful Group 44 racing team.  He achieved countless victories and championships for Triumph and Jaguar.  As a driver he has multiple SCCA National Championships and has competed internationally at Sebring, Daytona and LeMans.  As a team owner/manager, Bob’s career culminated with the creation of the exquisite Jaguar XJR-5 prototype racing cars which competed in IMSA’s premier GTP class and at LeMans during the 1980’s.

The 2010 Lake Mirror Classic Auto Festival enjoyed a cloudless day with cool temperatures which brought out a huge crowd to enjoy over 650 registered show vehicles.   Nearly 200 volunteers contributed to flawless execution of hosting what must be considered central Florida’s premier collector car event.  The streets of downtown Lakeland and the promenade of Lake Mirror Park were filled with colorful show vehicles and an estimated crowd of over 35,000 spectators.   During the awards ceremony on Saturday afternoon Chairman Ford Heacock extended a heart-felt “Thank You” to Guest of Honor Lyn St. James and to the car owners, sponsors and volunteers who combined to make the event such a huge success.

The 1933 Imperial was Chrysler’s top of the line series – powered by a 384 cubic inch (6.3 liter) engine and with 145” wheelbase.  With its long hood & flowing front fenders the Imperials were considered the most beautiful Chryslers ever made.  Its front was based on an L29 Cord & included a V-shaped radiator grill & slanted front windshield. Vertical louvers were on both sides of the hood, which wore a winged cap gazelle mascot on the front. Other Imperial features were: leather upholstery, 17″ wire wheels, twin side mounted spare tires, outside rearview mirrors and trunk rack.  This particular car was also an award winner at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. 

The Skylark was Buick’s answer to the European sports car and was the most luxuriously standard equipped Buick produced at that time.  Priced at $4,596.00, the Skylark had power brakes, power steering, power seats and a power aerial for the foot controlled selectronic radio. The owners name was engraved on a gold colored emblem plate and placed on the hub of the steering wheel. The Skylark was based on a Roadmaster chassis of 121-1/2 inch wheel base and it featured Kelsey Hayes wire wheels.

(It’s interesting to note that both Best-In-Show award winners were prepared by Harbor Auto Restoration in Rockledge, FL.)

The Chairman’s Trophy was presented to a 1922 Miller 122 Board Track Racer owned by Collier Historic Motorcars in Naples, FL.

The Mayor’s Trophy was presented to Amelia Island founder and Chairman, Bill Warner of Jacksonville, FL for his 1957 Cadillac El Dorado Biarritz.

Lyn has just released her new book “Lyn St. James – An Incredible Journey”.     She is actively engaged with Women in the Winner’s Circle Foundation and working to celebrate the achievements of women in the motorsports and automotive industries.  The foundation provides mentoring and leadership programs to create more opportunities for women in racing.
